Because of Covid 19 this was a very unusual year for the Hiking Club, in that all hiking was suspended for 10 weeks from mid-March though the end of May. Hiking was resumed on June 1, under strict Covid-19 policy guidelines (e.g., masks and social distancing).
Accordingly, due to the decreased opportunity to hike the Board of Directores adjusted the award threshold for three of the Achievement Awards for 2020 as follows:
Millennium Award - reduced to 800 miles from 1,000 miles
Pathfinder Award - reduced to leading 40 hikes versus 50 hikes
Trailblazer Award - reduced to leading 12 different hikes versus leading 15 different hikes
Award thresholds for all of the remaining awards were left unchanged for 2020.
The winners of the Annual Achievement Awards are normally announced at the Annual Winter Banquet usually held on the first Sunday in December, however this year's Banquet was cancelled due to Covid 19 concerns. This year's award winners are announced on the Club website (i.e., this page). Each of the 44 winners of 58 different awards (some people won more than one award) received a gray short sleeve t-shirt embossed with the Club logo and 2020 Achievement Awards. Here is a photo of the award.
Following is a list of the twelve awards and who won them.

This award is given to any member who has contributed 16 or more volunteer hours on a trail maintenance project, although all of this year's winners have gone far beyond that, sometimes volunteering 100 or more hours of their time to give something back to the trails we all love to hike. Gary Fine had an impressive 152 volunteer hours at Eagle Creek Park. This year we recognize five Club members:
Phil Coons Gary Fine Russ Himes Ned Lewis Frank Povinelli
This award is given to any member who is responsible for recruiting three or more new members to the Club during the Club year. Regrettably there were no winners of this award in 2020
Club Service Award
This award is presented by the Board of Directors to any individual is deserving of special recognition for their service to the Club. This year the Board choose to recognize Joan Griffiths for her efforts in administering Yahoo Groups site previously used by the Club for broadcast emails for more than 10 years, and her efforts to orchestrate the recent shift to a comparable free service Google Groups. As part of this effort Jane had to enroll over 400 Club members in the new service so the conversion could be seemless to the membership.
It should come as no surprise that once again Phil Coons contributed the most photos to the Club website. Phil also maintains the Club's great Facebook page.
Bill and Nell Larrison Pinnacle Award
This year there was no winner of this award.
